14 Year Old Souraj & His Supermom Proved Nothing is Impossible Through Their Indomitable Spirits

Parenting is a difficult task , everyday is a new challenge. You discover new avenues, face unexpected horizons and yet decide to brush away all the hazards and continue the journey of motherhood like a pro.

And one such pro in the journey of motherhood is Sudeshna Chakrabarti, a strong spirited lady who has lived beyond all the inhibitions, being the mother of  14 year old son, Souraj , an autistic kid ,who also happens to be a brilliant  baker.

How Did She Tackle The Society’s Curiosity?

When asked that how did she manage to escape the raised eyebrows of the society she nailed it saying, “ I just don’t care what people have to say about my son . Let them keep their valid opinions in their pockets.”

Sudeshna is a woman who inspires us to the core. She never wanted to be someone to be sympathised with. All she wanted an all-inclusive space for Souraj and herself in the society.

Recalling one past incident on this, where she went to a café, with her son and a group of women started gossiping about him. She noticed that and told her son to greet them and then smartly answered their gossiped about queries.

Sudeshna smartly stated that Souraj is just like any other normal kid posessing some different abilities known as autism. In case they want to get more information regarding this they may Google it.

Now that’s what we call a smart SuperMom who knows how to handle these gossiping aunties.

But Was It An Easy Journey For Sudeshna?

Just like any other mom, it wasn’t initially easy for Sudeshna. At first when she came to know about his problem Souraj was two and a half years old. Sudeshna was practically clueless. She came to know the term for the first time. But, she was determined, no matter to  what extent she might need to go, she will always be there for her son and promised to give him a wonderful childhood.

However it is this repetitive nature of Souraj was something that worked in his favor. While Sudeshna was trying to explore what could actually work out for Souraj, she started noticing Souraj’s eager interest in Sudeshna’s culinary skills.

How Did Souraj Become A Baker?

“ He used to be very much repetitive , annoying and nagging at times. Whenever he asked for something, before the word fell from his mouth, he wanted that to be in front of him. I had lots of patience, but at times I too got irritated  and but I never gave up”.

One thing which she noticed about Souraj is that he was a very good observer, specially when she used to cook. He would follow every minute step , and would recall sequentially. And Eureka! Sudeshna now knew what actually aligns with Souraj’s interest.

Previously she had tried many a times to explore his interest or passion by introducing him to art, music ,yoga but he never responded so diligently. Now seeing Souraj’s knack she took it as golden opportunity to make it a turning point of his life. Souraj initially starte with easy flame less recipies, which he prepared flawlessly.

Using a gas stove or flame was strictly a no no ,as it might cause any accident , moreover it may shatter his confidence. So, Sudeshna thought of introducing baking cakes for him, and involved him too. He actively participated and wanted to bake more. Seeing him so much enthusiastic, Sudeshna  tried to write the entire recipe in a pictorial format to nurture his interest and make his comprehension easier.

Gradually  he became brilliant at it, and to make his culinary skills polished she sent him to bakery classes to make sure he learns to follow instructions given by others too.

Baking a cake certainly assumed to be Souraj’s biggest passion. After mastering these skills, this rocking mother son duo opened a Facebook page named Chef Souraj and started taking orders and yes they are now getting a huge response with a bunch of satisfied customers.

“ The main thing is acceptance. Once you start accepting your situation then you must be able to understand your child’s ability in a better way. The more time you spend regretting, the more you will miss the beautiful moments of life. It might sound cliché, but stop asking yourself why me? Instead challenge the obstacles and say try me, I am prepared for everything.” Says Sudeshna.

As a Mom, when we lose at maintaining patience and multitasking, this supermom is fighting all the odds with an indomitable spirit and perseverance.

Sudeshna says , “ Whether your child is normal or differently abled, do not force or push them into anything. They are like tender buds, let them bloom on their own”.

While the current scenario everywhere is that we see parents pushing their kids to live upto their expectations, Sudeshna stands out of the crowd. According to her, one must not try to compare their kids with themselves by saying how can he/ she can’t do this when I was a pro at it in their age. Instead treat them as an individual.

Teach them as a professional without being emotionally bothered with their failures. Let them self explore themselves, then only they will shine on their own.

This was the story of  the inspiring lady, Sudeshna who is planning to give a broader spectrum to this baking passion of Souraj,   so that it may reach to many such Sourajs out there and help them to inculcate their hobbies into professions, chanelling them to their source of happiness.

Kudos to you lady, more power to you.
