India RunWay Week 2017 Summer Dedicated To Weavers’ Craftsmanship

India Runway Week has always been a home to multiple new talents, fresh designers and fresh talents. Amalgamating cultures and reflecting them through the stream of fashion is something India Runway Week always holds to its credits.

Time to witness this charismatic explosion of fashion through the captivating work of weavers this time at India Runway Week starting from the 28’th of April.

It would seem that no matter how big the India Runway Week gets, there you will always find fresh new names. Of course, the old designers continue every season. This is the 8th season of India Runway Week which is starting from 28th of April.

The weavers of India are its biggest assets. Indian hand woven fabrics have been known since time immemorial. India was famous even in ancient times as an exporter of textiles to most parts of the civilized world but throughout history and currently too there are evidences that show that weavers have always been a victim of a staunch hierarchical system. Being at the bottom of the system they fall prey to the extreme forms of exploitation.

There are organizations that are identified as a promising means of raising voice for them and generating livelihood for hundreds of rural artisans. They have made a significant contribution to the lives of the women artisans working with it, which has helped improve their economic as well as social status.

They strive to bring the traditions of India to customers all around the world with its unique creations and products. It not only helps its artisans become wage earners, but also spreads awareness about the traditional crafts of the region, thus helping preserve a rich part of India’s national cultural heritage. Indian Federation for fashion Development have joined hand with four of these organizations i.e Rangsutra, SoCHE, Banka Silk and Gestures by Kriti who will present the work of artisans at current season of India Runway Week Summer 2017 ramp which is starting from 28th of April to 30th of April 2017

“The purpose of this show is to raise the current conditions of the weavers and to propose the importance of such organizations and social security to the custodians of this ageless art.” Said by Fashion director, Kiran Kheva, India Runway Week

Rangsutra is a craft company of thousand artisans from remote regions of India – the desert regions of Rajasthan and plains of Eastern Uttar Pradesh whereas SoCHE is reviving this languishing and less popular hand embroidery practiced by women around the border areas of Barmer. Banka Silk on other hand is imparting the required skills to the weaver’s community of Banka, connecting them with the markets and helps create an Eco-system wherein the weaver’s community can become self-sustainable. And lastly Gestures by Kriti is a livelihood support and outreach initiative that began in 1999, to promote ethical, sustainable and socially conscious thinking & buying of ‘community made’ products.

So get ready for the fashion dose in the upcoming weekend. Stay tuned to Social Connoisseurs For All India Runway Week updates.

The second day of the prestigious and the luxurious 6th edition of the Pune Fashion Week presented by BVLGARI was an extravaganza of style and vogue with a blend of glitz and glamour as the evening unfurled marvelous collections fabricated by designers including Designer Devaki, Anj by Anjoo, Bibi Russell and a make-up show by Zara. Pune’s annual rendezvous with fashion came to a glorious end with couturier Nivedita Saboo showcasing her new collection “Circa 2016”. Mr. World Rohit Khandelwal looked dashing as he walked the ramp for Designer Nivedita as the showstopper, for the dazzling grand finale.

The second day of the 6th edition of the Pune Fashion Week was even more plush and glamorous than the opening day with ace designer and couturier Nivedita Saboo showcasing a spectacular collection in the grand finale. Taking the syle quotient of the city a notch higher, couturier Nivedita Saboo played with myriad glistening colours of frosty English evenings, varied heritage techniques and regally elaborate silhouettes as she showcased the theatrically brilliant English renaissance set on this side of the Deccan plateau, Circa 2016.

Celebrating layering and an enchanting spectrum that together explores the limitless boundaries of fashion, the collection remoulds traditional hand-work, combining it with the designer’s signature techniques of pleating, appliqué work and quilting to present a runway that is brought to life with its classically romantic silhouettes. Capturing the poetic elegance and the romanticism of the Shakespearean times, the collection flirts with ruffles and drapes, creating layers to unify the abstract with the fluid in a palette comprising of frozen lavender, rose quartz, old rose, celtic and moonshine grey, sage green, tigerlilly peach, salmon to scarlet. Combining breathtakingly beautiful fabrics such as pure silk, dupion silk, taffeta, silk tulle with touches of satin to portray the regality and distinguished finesse of the bygone years, the Nivedita Saboo Autumn Winter 2016 line was a combination of a capsule collection showcasing wedding couture for the modern & global Indian. From impeccably constructed corsets and royal sherwanis, avant-garde lehengas, versatile gowns with lattice-work collars, gun-metal and gold surface ornamentation on classic Indian silhouettes, the line-up takes you in to its subliminal realm that is so beautifully familiar yet exudes mystery that keeps you intrigued, on your toes and, as always, asking for more. Mr. World Rohit Khandelwal looked dashing as he walked the ramp for Nivedita as the showstopper for the grand finale.

The evening also witnessed FAD, MIT, Int’l Hair and Makeup Zara show wherein makeup artists and hairstyling student Rajvi Vora, Khilti Savla, Kareen Parwani and Shaili Mehta put a fabulous “Creative Fantasy Makeup Fashion Show”. Adding to the fashion quotient were shows of Veteran Designer Devaki of Kanya who showcased her fusion collection “Vaarsa” inspired from ethnic Maharashtrian fabric, embroidery inspired by Maharashtrian jewellery like waghnaki in pearls and zardosi and modern styles. Miss India Asia Pacific 2013 Shrishti Rana walked the ramp as showstopper for Designer Devaki.

Anj by Kouture showcased their latest bridal collection “Adarza” inspired by the “Sheesh Mahal” at Amer Fort, Jaipur. The collection incorporated motifs and embroidery from the intricate architecture of the palace. The color scheme of the collection takes you on a journey from pastels to deep shades of ivory, gold, peach, blush pink, sun yellow to deep maroon and red. The collection included heavy bridal lehengas, anarkalis and lighter range for other functions for family and friends. Actress Waluscha De Sousa looked a beautiful bride in Anj’s bridal collection as she walked the ramp as their showstopper.

Bangladesh Designer Bibi Russell showcased her collection inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and was a homage & tribute to Gandhi-ji and the crafts people of Rajasthan. The collection was made with incredible products of Rajasthan to support the fine artisans and craftspeople, to preserve their heritage and improve and innovate and help them sustain a better livelihood. Model Arry Dabas walked the ramp for Bibi Russell as the showstopper.

Do’s and Don’ts

From the Wear-House

For The Bride

If you’re a bride-to-be and are reading this article, you’re very special and of course, the centre of attention during a wedding (be it a Monsoon one or not). Hence, first & foremost, make sure your wedding dress, lehnga or outfit is not a hydrophilic one. Now, we’re not suggesting that you wear a raincoat to your wedding, but, wearing Lehngas made of Raw Silks rather than fabrics like Velvet (which tend to retain more water) would be an amazing idea if you want to stay comfortable at your monsoon wedding.

Also in Trend: Floral Printed Lehnga. A one like this would go really well with the monsoon theme and also, it’ll add a dimension to your level. Picture- Instagram- @manishmalhotra05

For The Groom

Tuxedos and Suits can be kept aside for a monsoon wedding. We’d highly recommend you to go for a simple cotton shirt topped with a Bandh-Gala. Not only would this combination help you attain that dapper, classy look and at the same time, providing respite from the humidity. We like to call this one a very Indianized, Cool and Classy Groom Attire.

Face-time Madness

For the Bride

Make up is another thing that’ll require some special attention if you’re having that monsoon wedding. A lot of emulsion/cream based products on your face would be an invitation for the humidity to trouble your face. Hence, it is always recommended that you instruct your make up artist to use the lightest and preferably organic products.

For the Groom

Make Up tips for the groom? Well, this may sound insane but hey, it is not like only the women are allowed to apply products on their face. It is equally essential for the Man of the show to follow some skin care tips especially in the super humid rainy season.

  • Use a refreshing mint based face wash.
  • Avoid moisturizing creams.
  • Make sure that you use the highest quality beard grooming products.

For the Bride

As far as the Bridal footwear is concerned, make sure that you bid a farewell to those highly polished and smooth soles. Such types tend to be very slippery, especially with the possibility of rain water on the floor, you must wear footwear with enough friction on the soles. If you really want to wear heels, go for the slabs rather than the pencils. Otherwise, nice floral flats and sandals are going to be your greatest allies for a monsoon wedding. Having a beach monsoon wedding? How about you chuck the sole altogether and add some bling to your feet with these innovative barefoot sandals.

For the Groom

A Groom should definitely chuck leather shoes for a monsoon wedding. First of all, leather is easily defiled in water and hence, if a groom is looking for some dapperness, it wouldn’t be the right kind of weather to pull that one off. Hence, the Jutti would be a better bet for the Groom’s footwear.

Now since you’d probably be saving some money from the venue bookings, you might as well use this to host a comfortable monsoon wedding party for the guests. Needless to say, it would awesome for your guests if you instruct the wedding designer to incorporate a lot of designer umbrellas and water proofing for the food stalls.

Also, there are some food items, that are synonymous with the monsoon season, which absolutely need to find place inside the food stalls at your monsoon wedding menu.

There is no harm in taking some inspiration from a typical Western Monsoon Wedding as well. Therefore, presence of a Marquee at the venue would indeed add a lot to the charm of your own monsoon wedding. Also, this is the season to enjoy the weather thoroughly, hence, don’t go for a venue that is totally covered. Use a mix of outdoors and sheds so that the guests can enjoy the rains as well as the food. Another great way to create a balance between indoors and outdoors is to create a glass set-up, so that your guests can get the best of both worlds.

Reputed Make Up Artist Pooja Goel Shares HerConnoisseur Advice for Monsoon Hair Care

When monsoon knocks your doors, your hair is the most vulnerable victim. With strands of hair going away from your beauty treasury, it is important that you have some handy hacks for hair care against those spells of shower. So let the ‘ Ghane Mulayem Kaale baal’ be your anthem with these beauty hacks.

Meet Pooja Goel: The Woman Behind Those Glowing Faces

Pooja Goel is the renowned Makeup artist and owner of Khoobsurat Salon, Spa and Academy. While we connected with her to share some brief hair care hacks for monsoon, she enlightened us with her connoisseur advice.

The rains bring respite from the heat of the summer but can leave you frustrated when your hair refuses to behave and stay in style. However, by following a few simple tips, you can manage to keep your hair problems to a minimum and look good. With these expert advices from Miss Pooja Goel, we can no wonder unlock the mystery of bouncy, shining hair, just like the diva herself.

• Do not wash your hair often:

There is nothing better than a nice bath when you just get in from the pouring rain. However, washing your hair too often, say every day, can exaggerate the problems you already face. Washing your hair two or three times a week will keep your hair clean and looking good. At the same time, it prevents excessive drying of hair and keeps frizziness to a minimum. Also, do not forget to condition your hair after every wash; you could use a leave-in conditioner to make dry hair more manageable.

Protect from Moisture:

Excessive moisture is the biggest culprit during this season. It affects your hair even if you remain indoors, especially on days when the humidity is high. Depending on your hair type, it may leave your hair frizzy or flat. Hair that is fine, wavy, or curly usually tends to absorb the moisture in the air. This makes fine or thin hair fall flat, but people with wavy or curly hair end up with frizzy strands. The best solution to this is to use a humidity-protective gel before styling. These gels help by forming a protective coat over the hair cuticle and preventing moisture from getting in. You can also follow up with a non-sticky hairspray for extra protection.

hd Do not experiment too much:

On rainy and extra-humid days, it is usually better not to force your hair into a style that does not feel right. For example, do not attempt to curl hair that is fine and limp or straighten hair that is naturally curly. This is because even a small amount of moisture absorbed by your hair will make it revert back to its natural texture, and your efforts will be in vain. Instead, try and make the most of your natural hair texture by adopting a style that suits you. Rub a generous amount of gel through curls for that tousled look. For fine and straight hair, pulling it back into a ponytail or braid works best

Well, with these beauty hacks in your make up bag, we hope you will have a smiling monsoon ahead.
