Whilst all of us plan for a retired life, the concept of retired life varies for all of us. Many consider a fancy retired life to be one where they can sit idle and ponder over the different experiences they have had in the past where as others consider it a time to pursue their hobbies, something which could not be done during earlier years of activity. Then there are those, who firmly believe that “Age is just a Number”. They are the people who prove that as long as you are passionate about pursuing a hobby it is never too late to implement it.

She had a modern outlook to life and among many of her interests, she know how to drive cars and loved playing Sitar. However, it was knitting which was her passion. She had learnt knitting from her mother and was so fond of it that even when she did not have knitting needle in hand she used to practice knitting using broomsticks. With no formal training in knitting, every design she used to weave were her own designs.
She got married at the age of 19.Her in laws family had 30 members. A “Joint Family“ household with so many members meant lot of activities as part of daily chores. As a result, she had to relinquish many of her hobbies and many of her interests had to be shelved but she persisted with her passion for knitting. Over the years, she used to weave bags and gift them to her relatives.
It was at the insistence of her grandchildren, who always encouraged her to consider creating “Potli Bags” and not limit them only to relatives but display her skill and creativity to all. This was the inception of ”Thakumar Jhuli” which since 2018 has been selling different designs of “Potli Bags” across various online platforms and the brand has been a grand success. It is available at all major virtual shops in social platforms and the varied designs of the beautiful “Zari” and Wool woven “Potli Bags” have been a big craze among youngsters who love to flaunt these bags complementing their dresses making it a perfect ensemble for all occasions. Furthermore, the bags can be customized as per the choice of the customers.
When being asked about how she feels about the over-whelming response she has received for “Thakumar Jhuli”, Mrs. Nath says, “I am more than just happy, I am grateful to each and every one for showering so much love and affection to me”. On her hobby of knitting, Mrs. Nath adds, that she even had a knitting machine at home, which she used, for weaving bags earlier but with age, she had to stop using the machine as due to poor eyesight it was becoming a problem. Thus, all the bags, which she is creating, are hand woven.
