5 Real Life Lessons That Made In Heaven Makes Us Contemplate on

Amazon Prime has been grabbing all the attention now when it comes to the New Gen Indian audience. While at one point, Indian viewers had no other alternatives rather than to rely on Netflix for some great original content, Amazon Prime has gradually grabbed all the limelight. With some successful series of lined up contents like Breathless, Mirzapur, Four More Shots etc. the Indian section of audience, not relying on the Saas Bahu daily soaps has finally achieved something truly satisfying their modern appetites for entertainment. And recently out of this Entertainment Pandora’s Box, released one of the most anticipated series by Zoya Akhtar “Made in Heaven”.

The “Gully Boy” fame director has been winning all the applause for her incredible direction in various films and “Made in Heaven” definitely adds a feather to her success crown. While most of the audience has accepted this recently released web series with a broad outlook considering how it mirrors the real turbulences in marriages, many of them have also criticised it for its explicit & wild depiction of sex, use of raunchy dialogues and definitely unusually abusive vocabulary. However for me, ‘Made in Heaven’ stands out to be another realistic sketches by Zoya Akhtar of the so-called polished and successful marriages that seem to be made in heaven but are actually grounded on harsh human reality.
The story has a setting of South Delhi where Tara and Karan are running a successful wedding planning organization, “Made In Heaven”. Karan belongs to an ordinary middle-class family while Tara Khanna is married to one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country, Mr. Adil Khanna. However, both of them are trying to invest on their own dreams and curate a successful business with their venture of Made in Heaven. This 9 episode web series deals with several subplots with the main plot of Tara, Karan, Adil and Faiza{ Tara’s best friend and Adil’s secret extra-marital alliance} running parallel with full force.
The best part of this entire web series is how beautifully Zoya Akhtar pronounces the nuances of the apparently perfect marriages that are established in the urban strata of the South Delhi society. Every episode deals with a particular negative tone that are usually present in all the metropolitan based weddings, but take a backseat amidst the glitz, glamour and wealth spent on the ceremony.
Elaborating much on the plot might deviate you from the main subject. For me, “Made in Heaven” is more than an ordinary web series as helps you to contemplate on several issues in real life. I would love to take this as a story that leaves you behind with a number of lessons to consider.

Karma Never Lets Anyone Escape

made in heaven lessons

The foremost and perhaps the most important lesson that Zoya wants to portray is how Karma takes its course. Whoever you are, whatever you might have achieved in life, Karma won’t let you go from its vicious circle. So when Tara’s husband cheats upon her, we cannot let go off the fact that how Tara had earlier seduced Adil into a marriage by breaking his prospective engagement. Similarly Karan gets back his results of embarrassing his gay partner Nawab years later when he himself gets arrested for his homosexual relationships and atrociously abashed by the public, media and surely the police. The bottom line remains nobody gets exempted from Karma’s rules.

Your Soulmate Might Not Necessarily Be Your Romancing Partner

While we always tend to identify our husband or wife as our real soulmate, sometimes true friendship might lie outside romance, as portrayed by the beautiful equation shared by Tara and Karan. While they are business partners, professionally involved in “Made in Heaven”, simultaneously they stand out to be each other’s’ soulmates without pronouncing the strong bonding shared between them explicitly. Karan rushes to Tara’s help when her husband Adil meets with an accident and his extra-marital involvement gets revealed and Tara hurries to Karan’s assistance when he gets arrested. In fact, these two have remained together through every thick and thin. Their chemistry is not limited to the fine barriers of a love relationship or just a professional alliance. They count on each other blindly for every sort of support, financially, psychologically or even physically. The mere presence of each other for each other validates their solid chemistry.

Never Forget Your Roots

Zoya Akhtar maintains the fine art of subtlety while addressing some of the major realities of life. Taara might be married to one of the best blue-blooded families in Delhi and initially she gets lost in the polished tones of the urban society where she wins all the fame and success with her husband’s wealth but unfortunately there isn’t any happiness. However as the series moves on, Taara’s lost happiness is discovered in the teenage lanes of Purani Dilli where she used to enjoy her delicious, unhygienic golgappas, get herself groomed in the grooming classes and finally her sister’s home where there might be little wealth but there is never-ending happiness in the petty things of life.

Never Be Guilty of Your Identity

madeinheaven..

Pic credits: Dailyexpress
This might seem to be quite an unrealistic lesson but the truth lies in the fact that that if you do not respect your choices, nobody will. Karan could have easily surrendered to the injustice and unethical invasion of privacy by his landlord. However he returned to the same house abiding by the terms of the legal agreement and confronted the situation with complete honesty. He had realised the intensity of the mistake he had committed in his childhood. He accepted that he was a gay not only in front of his family and the entire media but also started spreading the word about gay rights among his fellow listeners. Had he obliged to the wrong that the society has done to him, the same conditions would have followed that happened with his landlord.

Nothing is Above and Beyond Wealth

One of the best ways of Zoya Akhtar’s attack against this shallow society is the fine art of irony she executes throughout. While Taara’s husband claims to love her blindly{which definitely isn’t true considering the kind of extra-marital relationship he shares}, he remains extremely professional and materialistic when it comes to the monetary profits and loss ratios of “Made in Heaven” where he had invested. You might call it core professionalism, but at the same time, it’s quite hard to accept a man who wildly makes love to his wife at night, puzzling her the next morning with his series of questionnaires regarding “Made in Heaven’s performance charts.
Apart from these lessons, every episode is an endeavor of Zoya to chart out the vicissitudes of Indian marriage where there is glitz and glamour along with unending chains of hypocrisy and greed. There resides a fine juxtaposition of contradictory traits throughout every episode. Where there is love, there is greed, where there is trust, there’s betrayal and the chain goes on. While Made in Heaven remains to be one of our best web series, we are eagerly waiting for the genius Akhtar to bring on the sequel to the masterpiece soon.

Meet Hafiza & Rakiba Sultana: The Sister Duo is A Must Watch For Their Exceptionally Melodious Mash-Ups

I have always believed in the fact that Talent knows no age. It is a God-gifted element that gradually nurtures and nourishes to bloom into efficiency. Today as I introduce to you this new section “Real Life Celebrity”, I would like to begin with the story of a young girl whose only passion was to voice out her emotions, expressions and every facet of her life through songs. She believes to define herself through the art of her voice and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration at all if I ever say that this young girl has all the talent to become a singing sensation in the coming times.

hafiza

Before moving further, let us have a quick trailer of her mesmerizing voice.

Introducing to you Hafiza Sultana, a girl studying in 12’th standard who sings no less than a sensational star.

The magic of her voice not only lies in her ability to create a melodious magic from every song but also to recreate beautiful mash-ups that very few people can ever even think of.

Singing has been an inherent talent within her since long and undertaking classical music sessions since the age of 10 made it go strong.

The Other Lovely Half

rakibaRakiba Sultana, her sister, a student pursuing graduation in English Literature is also a forerunner of this magical talent. She too joins in Hafiza for her mash ups and undoubtedly when this duo sings, what you get is a miraculously melodious piece that would soothe any sort of mood.

Was It A Smooth Journey For This Duo To Follow Their Dreams?

Coming from a Muslim conservative background, their journey had not been a smooth bed of roses. In fact, it was solely their parents’ support that guided them to tread on their path of passion without facing much hurdles.

Kudos to such parents who believe to take their childrens’ dreams ahead crossing all barriers of so called caste systems and their stereotyping!

Anurag Basu Cooked Up A Sudden Story and It Isn’t Delicious Enough! Jagga Jasoos Review

So Anurag Basu finally has arrived with a new film after years and I was too excited to try my luck. So right after a hectic day, I hopped into a nearby theatre for a quick dose of relaxation and what did I get?

An utter plate of disappointment offered to me with some peppy, melodious music.

So let me elaborate a bit so that you understand what’s in store for you when you walk into the theatres with some incredible expectations.

jagga jassos review...Plot

I won’t unfold you the entire story but would share tits and bits and believe me these bits are enough strong to forget your movie plans. So Katrina Kaif adopts a storytelling mode to reveal the mysterious tales of Jagga aka Ranbir Kapoor. And there we come to learn how Jagga met his father “Tooti Frooti”. It was under his mentorship Jagga could learn the most significant chapters of life. But unfortunately, one fine day,  Tutti Frooti aka Saswata Chatterjee leaves behind Jagga in a boarding school without any further explanation. And then on, Jagga became the mystery solver, Jagga: the Jasoos.

From solving trivial mysteries like murder of his English teacher to the cracking of the secret route for arms migration, Jagga had established himself as quite a professional detective. And one fine day, Jagga comes to know that his father Tooti Frooti is no more. But the detective instincts in Jagga make him believe that his dad is still alive. And then begins his journey to search Tutti Frooti and in this course he finds a bigger mystery is waiting for him: The case of Mr. Bashir Alexander.

Who is he exactly, I won’t reveal, but all I can say is it is this thread that Anurag Basu leaves behind unstitched probably to bring out a sequel to this one.

jj_8

Katrina and Ranbir’s meeting seem to be accidental but in the due course they become great friends and definitely mutual love interests develop( quite predictable ). Shruti Sengupta aka Katrina is a journalist whose latest story centres around the illegal migration of arms and during this episode she happens to meet Ranbir, who not only helps her getting her story bites but also saves her from the possible life threats. Later Katrina accompanies Ranbir in his journey to find out “Tutti Frooti” his dad, as she is the only one he can look upto for help and also a complete replica of his dad in her attitude and behavior.

jagga jasoos review.

The problem is if the narrative had been plain even with a pinch of flashbacks then still it could have been acceptable. But Anurag Basu decides to disclose the mysteries of arms and ammunition through the narrative of Katrina and that too in front of kids who fall between the age of 6-10 years. And just like us, they too were completely bored by Katrina’s story.

What Could Have Been Great:

As soon as you move into the theatres, you are into the world of lyrical ballads. Ranbir is unable to speak smoothly and he stammers, but surprisingly when he sings, he does it like a pro. Moreover even in some serious situations, Ranbir tends to forget his stammering and speaks in his usual flow. The problem is despite there’s some great music in the movie but there’s excess of it. But as the saying goes: Nothing of excess is never good enough.

The movie takes us to different locations from the scenic landscapes of Manipur to the traditional streets of the City of Joy and even to destinations of Kenya and Morocco. But nothing seems to impress us much.

As usual Katrina falls short of her acting skills and seriously adds to the disappointing soup.

jagga-jasoos_148471955310Still Commendable:

Ranbir Kapoor perhaps had taken over the responsibility to compensate for the loss and thus his flawless acting does make you feel that your ticket money has not been a complete waste. Even Saswata Chatterjee had been a source of great inspiration with his commendable acting.

After Barfi, I was really looking up to Anurag Dada for some real good script but unfortunately all expectations went in vain. Had the script been a little more powerful, then definitely the film would have left a greater impact on our mind.

Rating:3.5/5

5 Life Lessons Dangal Leaves Us Inspired With

Dangal has been one of the most impactful movies of the year 2016. While 2016 began with a note of  Bollywood’s reinforced determination with masterpieces like AirLift and Neerja, it ended on a superb lead too with Dangal.

But Dangal is indeed a hidden gem in disguise. It has layers to offer and each unpeeling leaves you behind with a new surprise. It is much more than the story-telling of Geeta Phogat or enriched acting skills of Aamir Khan.

Dangal is a reel life narration inspiring real life and here are the 5 best ways Dangal has left solid imprints on our memory.

  • Set your goals and be focused towards it – If you have set your goals you should work hard hard until you achieve it. You should not get carried away by something or be impatient while you fail. You have to be mentally strong enough to accept failure and come out of it and work even harder to achieve it.
  • danga1
  • SOURCE:Men’s XP
  • Old Basic Techniques are Always the Root Foundations – Old is always gold and one cannot deny that there are few basic techniques that you have to follow throughout.  The new age rules may help you to reach near your goal but will not help you in the long run and that is what Geeta Phogat’s tutorial sessions take us through.

There is no shortcut to success – You have to go through a whole process, training, education and work very hard to be successful. Shortcut ways may lead to some extent but at the end you will fall.

You cannot overlook your parents – Parents have more life experience than us. So when they counter your decisions or restrain us from doing something we should consider it. Otherwise the consequences are quite evident.

Set a strategy and plan – You always need a mentor who will guide you in the right direction. You cannot just go with the flow and reach your goal. So in the beginning you have to make a good strategy and be calm so that when the opponent makes a mistake you can take the advantage. You have to make different strategies for every game just like Geeta Phogat was directed by her father for each and every different points.

Sabhagar Theatre Festival: A Gift For All Theatre Lovers of Kolkata

Coverage By Kathakali Sengupta

Sabhaghar Theatre Festival, presented by Centre Stage Creations brought to the City of Joy a great panorama of the best of World Theatre. It was a 3 – day- long show of great stagecraft from 10th to 13th  December , 2016 at GD Birla Sabhaghar Themed  on ‘ Celebrating World Theatre’ , it showcased workshops and performances by UK actor and director Daniel Bye, Lillete Dubey and Gautam Halder. We were fortunate enough to watch Gautam Halder’s performance in Prachya’s play  ‘ Nileema’ , directed by Biplab Bandyopadhyay on the last evening of the show.

poster-a3_final_aw-1

It was a satire inspired by famous playwright Eugene  Ionesco’s play ‘ The Lesson’ which was a perfect critique of contemporary education system. Much in sync with Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘ Totakahini’, the play presented a weird professor’s obsession with making  the  student understand everything she wants and does not want to know.

image1-1

His obsession with teaching does not end even when the student is on her deathbed. The play also presented the student’s imaginary escape from reality which she can only dream of. Interestingly enough the  characters of the students, both during the play and at the end are female characters, much realistically representing the sexual oppression that female students face nowadays from their male professors.

30-days-in-september-2-1

At the end, the autocratic professor’s murder of the student and again setting another prey for his obsession, marks a great end of the day. Last but not the least, the supporting group of actors dressed as clowns act as the inner conscience of a person’s soul and also maintain a parallelism of every action.

sabha

The Sabhagar Theatre Festival indeed gave all the theatre lovers of Kolkata to usher in some splendid performances. Hope it comes along every year with a new mood and some more thrilling theatrical acts to look forward to.

Dear Zindagi: Tête-à-Tête with the Bygone Chapters of Life

Dear Zindagi,

I am writing a letter to life for the #DearZindagi activity at BlogAdda

Well as I begin my letter addressing to you, my dear life, a bundle of thoughts keep crowding my mind. You know you haven’t been an easy ride for me. With physical as well as emotional turbulence, financial and professional upheavals, you have been sometimes really rude and cruel to me. But believe me dear life, I have no grudge against you. Neither do I want to slam you nor do I want to rant about you for the past chapters, since I Know that you move on.(Life moves on). Today as I pen down this letter to you, let me tell you how thankful I am.

lg

Life, you know the tears I have shed when my mom used to leave me behind alone at home, locked in a room for her office. No, she wasn’t cruel, it was her helplessness and circumstances that compelled her to do. Zindagi, believe me or not , I thank you now for those past episodes. While sitting by the window and waiting for my parents to return home, I did understand the gifts of waiting. When I was shifted to my grandparents’ place for the sake of a promising convent education, I learnt how to spend the most crucial moments of life without parents. And zindagi you made me tougher and determined enough to combat more hassling situations in life.

You have sometimes been extremely kind to me. Remember, when I came to know about my little brother who was soon going to be born? Well, how excited I was at that point of time. I knew it how you are going to treat me with a sibling who will be my partner in crime. Though, fortunately I gained much more than I expected.

You carved the best out of me. It was at a tender age of 11 years I almost developed all motherly qualities by looking after my brother. Yes Zindagi you have been a teacher at every point in life. In fact when in standard 8 I came across those lines of Shakespeare, “All the world’s a stage/ And all the men and women are merely players”, these lines really didn’t synchronize into my mind, but as I grew older I learnt how fantastically Shakespeare could predict things.

I am aged 29 now Zindagi, as you know and these 29 years of life have indeed been a journey tossing and swaying in the fluctuating waves of life. I had discovered love in my life a couple of times, but Zindagi you, like a true teacher made me realize that every romantic affair is not destined to be an outcome of true love.

lg4

I have gone through a series of stoop downs, heartbreaks and pangs of frustration. But I don’t complain Zindagi and you know the reason why. You have gifted me the complete colors of life now. As I got married, I realized that how important it was for me to go through those heartbreaks just in order to understand the depth of true love. A loving partner, a cute little child and a promising career in what my passion lies, writing are undoubtedly things very few can look forward to.

lg3

I thank you Zindagi for being beside me, in my times of trauma, letting me be my own best friend. Beautiful Zindagi, I have learnt to discover happiness in the small moments of life, my child’s smile, a happy client’s appreciating nod, a stranger’s word of thanks and my loving partner’s hug are the things you gift me almost every day. A small sacrifice, an inch of compromise just to lighten up a gloomy mind are the pleasures that have their own moments of joy. And thus I totally agree with the visual clips portrayed by Shahrukh Khan’s upcoming film “Dear Zindagi”.

Zindagi, now I stand with you, happy and satisfied and waiting for the upcoming years of life to be equally worth cherishing. Till then, Sayonara and I end my letter with these lines from Ella Wheeler Willcox’s “As You Go Through Life”

Don’t look for the flaws as you go through life;
And even when you find them,
It is wise and kind to be somewhat blind
And look for the virtue behind them.
For the cloudiest night has a hint of light
Somewhere in its shadows hiding;
It is better by far to hunt for a star,
Than the spots on the sun abiding.

Why You Should Not Waste Your Time on Mohenjodaro?

Mohenjo Daro Review

Though this comes  very late , but I could write a review only after I have seen the movie. I had heard rumors that it did not perform quite well on the screens, but voicing out a negative opinion first requires enough verification. And here comes an honest unbiased review of Mohenjodaro.

When a filmmaker like Ashutosh Gowariker thinks to make a movie on one of the most important settlement of the Indus valley civilization- Mohenjo Daro, one would definitely expect it to be historically correct and yet keep his worth as a storyteller.

However, as the movie states, he has failed to retain both the accounts.

mohenjodaro1Mohenjo Daro is basically a fantasy movie and has nothing to do with the exact historical background. It has nothing new to offer and it is the same old brew of jealousy, love served in a packet full of drama with no proper and convincing proportions.

Moreover with the historic diversions and the surplus reinterpreted scenes, Mohenjodaro definitely does not live up to the built expectations of the eagerly awaiting audiences.

mj 4

Ashutosh has made the first half a bit comical than historical or rather it was a historical comedy in its own way. We understand Ashutosh had been very much inspired by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, but that does not imply that he will recreate his own historical occurrences.

And what about cinematography and fashion? I must say as far as history states the fashion of Mohenjodaro was definitely not as provoking as it appears to be on the screens of Mohenjodaro by Ashutosh Gowariker.

mohenjodaro2

The acting department also failed to achieve the level of success. Even at some part you may find it quite amateur. The history lovers will find the movie amusing as they won’t be able to relate the film with the actual plot. Serious movie lovers may think it’s the same old, tedious and boring.

Mohenjo Daro had a clash with Akshay Kumar’s Rustom. Even after all this people are watching this movie just due to their love for Hrithik Roshan. But if you really want to make out something from the movie, please keep the history books miles away.

This movie is solely for Hrithik lovers as here he has flaunted his abs, his great dance moves as well. Pooja Hedge is a beautiful lady who limp expressions makes her an appealing heroine. It’s a one time watch though you will like the historic set but don’t expect much from the movie. Well! Even after Hrithik’s earnest performance, it is not enough to take us to the cinema hall to watch Mohenjo Daro.
