We.Desi:A Trendy Food Joint in Kolkata Redefining Food Styling and Tastes
A Journey To Our Origins with We.Desi
Our roots define us, and deep in our mind we all are proud to say “WE.DESI”. The name in itself gives us a journey to the desi flavours away from the firangi touch we all are living in. Kolkata has always been house to beautiful rich flavours tossed up in style and fashion. This time, everyone’s favourite 22 Camac Street hosts this one of a kind gastro pub just in everyone’s vicinity. “WE.DESI”, which opened its doors on the 1st of September 2016 is all set to make a promising impact on the food lovers of Kolkata.
The Game of Black and White:
The sumptuous gastro pub is located on the 5th floor of the very popular building and once you enter the resto, it will be certain that the following journey will be on a completely different note. The theme was well played and complimented with touches of ivory and black all around the interior. Adequate space and intelligent sitting arrangements made the stay even more interesting. The bar is located on one of the corners and it is well dressed with all the “bar necessities” one can ask for.
The prime attraction of this place is the live kitchen, located at the very centre and one can sit at any of the tables and watch their appetizing food being prepared right in front of their eyes. Who does not love a vintage chess board pattern table?
We.Desi is redefining the theme restaurants by reintroducing “the vintage theme in a more modern and edgy way”. A long stretch of wall is dedicated to classic photographs and coasters. It was clever to come up with a unique idea of transforming those “huge fans of bygone times” into a wall décor. The ambiance was top notch and the food is even a mark higher.
Get Indulged in Authentic Dishes Served in the Trendiest Ways:
Let’s start with the refreshing welcoming cocktails. A treat for the alcoholic and non-alcoholic souls, the masala cola has been recreated for presenting the best. The Coca cola topped with burnt orange, mint leaves and two scoops of ice cream on the rocks will make you crave for more.
The monotonous taste of the regular colas will be lost in time. The smoking cool ‘sangria’ is what a wine lover must order. Red wine combined with diced fruits, dry ice and brandy presented a whole new avatar of the popular club drink sangria. The fruity flavours give extra brownie points to this “bar special drink”. Kick start the food journey with the “Alu Kitakshari”, a delicacy which basically has the base of aloo tikia and chana on top. The pure vegetarian dish is full of tradition and flavour.
However, the non-vegetarians must try the “Chicken Nizami Tangri kebab”. The leg piece was stuffed with chicken keema and the smooth taste of butter and soft chicken went very well with each other. Next on the menu was “Tandoori Jhina Diya”, a prawn roasted to give that smoky tandoori flavour and served in a diya.
A great way to incorporate creativeness inspired from the traditional elements with taste. All the concepts of the foods were extraordinary and the presentations are surely going to earn some wows from everyone. How about getting some extra stuffing ion the kulcahs? We.Desi offers some extra stuffed kulcha that will absolutely win one’s heart.
Do not strive hard to find the perfect companion for the over-stuffed kulchas as the mutton curry is there to impress you. The rich taste and use of spices made the mutton more juicy and succulent. Punjabis master in making “chawal and curry” but what if both are combined to make one awesome dish? The “Curry pakora” deviats from the traditional concept of “curry chawal” by simply stuffing rice in ‘bason’ coating which comes withbeautiful dahi curry.
To satisfy our sweet tooth we most always end with our favourite desserts. The denizens of Kolkata never knew that Apple tart and khir can complement each other so well. The right amount of crispness and sweet makes it a commendable dessert. The chequered “Nolen gur brownie” surprises us with a centre filled with alls favourite nolen gur. To end the day on the sweet note, try the “baked gulabjamun” that is topped with fresh homemade ice-creams.
A classic combination of vintage and modernisation, not only the whole interior but also the foods are the true manifestation of such a rare concept.
